The CEO of the IMED hospital group, Ángel Gómez Navarro, has died at 56 after a long illness. He was the driving force behind the group, which has 13 healthcare centres.

The CEO of the hospital group IMED, Ángel Gómez Navarro, passed away this Saturday at the age of 56 after a long illness. The news was reported by Alicante Plaza, which highlights the death of the executive, a key figure in one of Spain's leading healthcare groups.

Gómez Navarro, born in La Vila Joiosa in 1970 and holding a degree in Economic and Business Sciences from the University of Alicante, began his healthcare management career in Benidorm. In the late 1990s, he launched the Hospital de Levante, his first centre, in that same city.

From there, the group expanded in the Comunitat Valenciana with a hospital in Elche, opened in 2011, and centres in València, Alcoy, and Gandia, the latter two through acquisition. He also opened polyclinics in Torrevieja and Teulada and reached the Region of Murcia, where he established an oncology radiotherapy centre.

The group has 13 healthcare centres and more than 3,000 professionals spread across the provinces of Alicante and Valencia and the Region of Murcia. Their plans for this year included the opening of a new hospital in Barcelona, their first major expansion outside their usual territory, and the inauguration of their new centre in the city of Alicante.

Since the beginning of the year, Gómez Navarro stepped down from managing the group to focus on his treatment for colon cancer, according to published information. He passed away this morning, shortly after nine o'clock.
