Rockwell Automation presents the CompactLogix 5390 controller, which reduces the physical footprint by 43% compared to the 5380 and integrates cybersecurity in accordance with IEC 62443-4-2. The device is part of the Integrated Architecture platform and is available for machine manufacturers and integrators.
Rockwell Automation has launched the CompactLogix 5390 controller, a device that reduces the physical footprint by 43% compared to the previous model, the CompactLogix 5380, and incorporates cybersecurity aligned with the IEC 62443-4-2 standard within the same control platform, as reported by ecosistemastartup.com. The controller integrates into the Integrated Architecture, the family upon which the company bases its industrial offering.
The device is designed for more connected and data-dependent operations. The company presents it as a response to a dual demand: to manage higher capacity applications and to meet integrated security and cybersecurity requirements that were previously addressed with external components.
Among the technical innovations, the controller is compatible with local PointMax input and output modules, allowing for more modular architectures with less wiring. In terms of cybersecurity, alignment with IEC 62443-4-2 prepares it to meet the demands of the EU Cyber Resilience Act. Additionally, it integrates security and higher performance on a single platform, rather than distributing those functions across separate components.
The integration with the Rockwell ecosystem is explicit: the controller is compatible with PointMax I/O, Kinetix motion solutions, PowerFlex drives, Stratix networking technologies, FactoryTalk Design Studio software, and other visualisation solutions.
"Manufacturers of equipment and machines are no longer only required to deliver good performance, but also to meet increasingly strict cybersecurity and safety requirements while managing larger and more connected operations," says Siva Iyyamperumal, Senior Product Director at Rockwell Automation.
The launch comes at a time of mixed demand. According to the analysis by ARC Advisory Group on Rockwell Automation's fiscal third-quarter results for 2026, the company reported sales of $2.31 billion, an 8% increase over the previous year, with organic sales up 10%. The Software & Control segment was the fastest growing, with $751 million (+19%), driven by demand for the Logix platform, on which the CompactLogix 5390 is built.
Intelligent Devices generated nearly $1.08 billion (+12%), and the company raised its sales growth forecast for fiscal 2026 to a range of 7.5% to 9.5%. By region, North America accounted for approximately 64% of reported sales with an organic growth of 12%, while EMEA grew by 7%, Asia Pacific by 8%, and Latin America declined by 3%.
