Six major Spanish banks have reported nearly €29.235 billion in profit in the first nine months. Bankinter will be the first to present its accounts on October 22.

According to murciadiario.com, the six major Spanish banks (Santander, BBVA, CaixaBank, Sabadell, Bankinter, and Unicaja) would have jointly earned around €29.235 billion by September 2026, a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This figure comes from a consensus of analysts consulted by EFE.

Only between July and September, according to market estimates, the six banks would total €9.070.4 million, which adds to the more than €20.160 million obtained in the first half.

Bankinter will publish its results on Thursday, October 22, as is customary for the first in the group. Consensus expects a profit of €896.76 million between January and September, a 10.44% increase, supported by commercial activity in Spain, Portugal, and Ireland. In June, it announced the acquisition of 100% of Tulp Hypotheken Holding, a Dutch mortgage brokerage and financing platform.

Santander will present its accounts on Wednesday, October 28, with a projected profit of €12.724 million, a 23% increase, driven by the sale of its subsidiary in Poland, Santander Polska. In the third quarter, the bank would earn around €3.751 million, a 7.05% increase.

BBVA will make its results public on Thursday, October 29, with an estimated profit of €8.967 million by September, a 12.4% increase. Until June, the bank had recorded higher operating expenses in Spain due to voluntary employee departures in the first quarter of 2026.

Sabadell will communicate its results to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) on October 29. Analysts estimate a profit of €1.327.5 million, a 4.5% decrease from a year earlier, affected by the early retirement plan in Spain.

CaixaBank will present its accounts on Friday, October 30, with an estimated profit of €4.792 million in the first nine months, an 8.98% increase. On the same day, Unicaja will publish results, with an expected profit of €527.4 million, a 4.85% increase.

Economist Javier Santacruz predicts that bank profits will maintain a favourable trend in the coming quarters and that the first half of 2027 will also be positive. However, he warns that tensions in sovereign debt markets and rising risk premiums could harm banks as intermediaries in fixed income.
