A resident of Puente Genil reports an attempted scam with a +400 call that pretended to be an employee of Iberdrola. The Local Police warn that this number does not guarantee the call is legitimate.
A resident of Puente Genil (Córdoba) has reported to the Local Police of this municipality an attempted telephone scam with a call from the prefix +400, which was introduced on October 17 to identify commercial calls. According to what elDiario.es has published, the Local Police have recorded the case as a formal complaint filed by the affected party.
According to the Local Police, the caller used a number starting with +400 and presented themselves as an employee of Iberdrola. Through deception, they managed to obtain the victim's banking details.
The Police describe the method as vishing (telephone fraud), a technique where scammers impersonate well-known companies to gain the trust of their victims. They warn that the number displayed on the screen does not serve to verify anything:
“Do not rely solely on the number that appears on the screen: it can be used to create a false sense of trust.”
Among the advice from the Local Police of Puente Genil is to be suspicious of unexpected calls asking for personal or banking information and not to provide passwords, verification codes, or card details. If in doubt, it is advisable to hang up and contact the company through its official channels.
If banking details have already been provided, the recommendation is to contact the bank immediately to block any potential fraudulent transactions. The Police insist that the prefix does not guarantee the legitimacy of the call:
“A call beginning with the prefix +400 does not guarantee that it is legitimate. Criminals can take advantage of this numbering to try to deceive you.”
