The First Vice President and Minister of Economy, Carlos Cuerpo, maintains that the ban on arms traffic to Israel through Spanish ports is not discriminatory. The Government will analyse the resolution from the Federal Maritime Commission of the United States.
According to notimerica.com, the First Vice President and Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, defended on Thursday that the ban on arms traffic through Spanish ports to Israel does not discriminate against vessels from any country.
Cuerpo spoke in an interview on La Hora de La 1, after the Federal Maritime Commission of the United States (FMC) concluded, following an investigation, that the Spanish Government has applied restrictive port practices against vessels flying the American flag.
“The Spanish measure does not target vessels from any country; what we are doing is prohibiting arms traffic through our ports to Israel”
The American agency has proposed to the Donald Trump Administration to charge a fee of 200,000 dollars (180,000 euros) per trip to Spanish ships and to limit the import of products of Spanish origin, in response to the ban.
The resolution, announced on Wednesday, opens a period for presenting allegations or appeals. The Government is studying it in detail to defend the interests of the country and its companies.
Cuerpo added that the action will be taken “in collaboration with the European Commission,” as the resolution affects trade, which is a competence of the European Union.
