The average electricity price in the wholesale market for this Monday 28 September is €198.05/MWh, according to data published by the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE), as reported by sport.es. The day shows a difference of over €115 between the cheapest and the most expensive hour.
The most economical period of the day will be between 13:00 and 14:00, when electricity will cost €150.32/MWh. This is the recommended time to run high-consumption appliances, such as the washing machine or dishwasher.
On the opposite end, the most expensive hour will be between 20:00 and 21:00, with a price of €265.67/MWh. The second most costly period will be recorded between 08:00 and 09:00, at €250.00/MWh.
The price remains above €150 throughout the day. The central hours of the morning and afternoon concentrate the highest values, while the early hours of the morning and midday offer the lowest amounts.
The increase in peak hours is due to rising demand and the higher cost of less efficient generation sources, such as those using fossil fuels. During periods of lower consumption, the entry of cheaper technologies, such as photovoltaics, reduces the final market price.
For households with a regulated tariff (PVPC), the final bill cost will depend on their hourly consumption. Adjusting the use of electrical appliances to the more economical periods allows for a reduction in the monthly amount without changing habits.
