The Mingorancia Rooms of the Municipal Archive host a selection of 45 works from the 9th BBVA Veterans Painting Contest until October 18. The exhibition includes the winning and finalist works of this edition.
The Mingorancia Rooms of the Municipal Archive of Málaga have been exhibiting a selection of 45 works from the 60 that participated in the 9th BBVA Veterans Painting Contest - VIII Conchi Mendoza Memorial since this month and until October 18. According to information from the Málaga City Council via malagactualidad.es, the exhibition brings together works by both local and foreign painters created using various techniques.
Participants were required to draw inspiration from the city of Málaga, its light, its inhabitants, streets, buildings, and monuments, as per the competition rules. The exhibition was presented by the delegated councillor for Culture and Historical Heritage, Mariana Pineda, alongside the president of the BBVA Veterans Association and curator of the exhibition, Antonio Moreno. Also in attendance were the area director of BBVA for Málaga, Córdoba, and Melilla, José María Hernández Martínez, and the former president of the association, Manuel Quintanilla, who held the position for over two decades.
The jury of the contest has announced the awards for this edition. The first BBVA prize went to Eduardo Hidalgo Lupianes for the work Casa de socorro. The second award was given to Antonio Cantero Tapia for Interior de la Catedral. The third prize was awarded to Francisco Jesús Rodríguez Ruiz for Cámara de Comercio. The finalists include María Firsova Chebakova for Jacarandas en la Plaza de la Merced, Claudia Ferrand Sanjuan for La fuente del Pez-La Alcazaba, and Francisco Segura Fernández for Iglesias de Málaga. The winning and finalist works are included in the exhibition catalogue.
As a novelty, the main image for the promotion of the exhibition is the work Jacaranda, winner of the first prize from the previous edition, by the artist Francisco Navas Amaya.
The BBVA Veterans Association consists of active employees, early retirees, and pensioners of the entity. The contest is part of the cultural activities organised by the group and pays tribute to Málaga through art, as well as remembering Conchi Mendoza, a member of the association and wife of the former president, who passed away in 2010.
The exhibition will remain open to the public in the Mingorancia Rooms of the Municipal Archive until October 18.
