The leader of the PP accuses Sánchez of using housing for electoral calculation after the rejection of the decrees in Congress and challenges him to dissolve the Cortes.

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has accused the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, of acting with "electoral calculation" regarding housing after the Plenary of Congress rejected the two decrees approved by the Council of Ministers. According to his statements at a press conference in the Lower House, the texts were not "to help Maricarmen or anyone else". This information is reported by notimerica.com.

Feijóo has challenged Sánchez to call elections immediately and has assured that he is "ready" to face him at the polls. "If he needed a narrative to call elections and thus try to cover up the corruption that we still do not know about, I accept the challenge. Does he think he has the excuse? Let him set a date," he stated.

"I am ready. We are prepared. For me, he can call whenever he wants. For Spain, let him call as soon as possible"

In light of reports suggesting that elections could be held on 29 November, the opposition leader has advised Sánchez not to delay the announcement any further to avoid "the eventuality of catching the opposition off guard".

The popular leader described the day as one of the "most shameful" of the legislature and maintained that, after eight years of "failing in housing policy", an attempt has been made to make Spaniards believe that the problem could be solved in three days. "Citizens have been used to try to gain electoral advantage, and that is despicable," he said.

Feijóo emphasized that this is the legislature in which the population has grown the most while the least new housing has been built. "The scale of the Government's defeat is only comparable to the frivolity" with which, in his opinion, the "most relevant" issue for Spaniards in recent years has been treated.

The opposition leader warned that "decrees inspired by street protests cannot be approved while simultaneously fearing to go out into the streets". Therefore, he challenged Sánchez to travel the country and explain to citizens that "there is no housing because of the opposition".

"He has the excuse, set the date, dissolve the Cortes, call elections, let the Spaniards speak"

Regarding the outcome of the votes, Feijóo noted that the rejection of the decrees "at least guarantees that the housing situation is not worse than yesterday". He also criticized the attempt to use this issue to "cover up the embarrassments of the Government of Spain in Ceuta" or to "hide in the headlines the jewels" of former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

The leader of the PP has denounced that it cannot continue to be accepted that the Cortes Generales "are the stage of a theatre" and lamented the "instability" and parliamentary defeats of the Executive. "Today no decree has been voted on to help Mari Carmen or anyone else. An excuse has been brought here to try to help Pedro Sánchez," he asserted.

When asked if he is concerned that the mobilizations called this weekend for housing will turn into protests against the PP, Feijóo insisted that the only "decent" and "democratic" way out is to go to the polls. "No one thinks about Pedro Sánchez until 2031, but no one wants Pedro Sánchez this Christmas," he concluded.
