The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, commits to revaluing pensions according to the CPI if he reaches the Presidency. He stated this in Brussels, during the pre-campaign for the general elections on November 29.
According to atlantico.net, the leader of the Popular Party and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, asserts that if he reaches Moncloa, he will guarantee the viability of the public pension system and update the benefits in accordance with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
The popular leader made the announcement this Thursday in Brussels, after participating in the summit of the European People's Party (EPP), during the pre-campaign for the general elections on November 29.
“Pensions are non-negotiable. That’s it.”
Feijóo's words respond to the criticisms from the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who expressed his “perplexity” at the statements from PP and Vox leaders regarding the future of the system. Sánchez defended its sustainability and indicated that his government intends to raise pensions before the end of the year.
The controversy intensified after the PP spokesperson in Congress, Ester Muñoz, defended in a podcast changes to the current model and warned that the system could “collapse”.
Feijóo accused Sánchez of lacking credibility on this matter and reminded him of his vote in favour of freezing pensions during the government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
“For him to come and give lessons on the viability and freezing of pensions, Mr. Sánchez is disqualified from that.”
The popular leader insists that the revaluation according to the CPI and the continuity of the public system are non-negotiable commitments if his party governs after the elections.
