Beautician Estefanía Escolano, who takes her mobile beauty centre to the villages of Granada, has received one of the self-employed person of the year awards in its 2026 edition.

Estefanía Escolano, specialised in micropigmentation and microblading, has been recognised as one of the self-employed persons of the year by the Federation of Self-Employed Workers. According to Ideal, the award distinguishes her project Microvan, beauty on wheels, a mobile beauty centre that brings its services to the women of the villages of Granada.

Escolano moved to Granada in 2019 from Valencia. In 2023, she converted an old American ambulance into a mobile beauty centre, the first of its kind in Spain. The initiative had already been awarded at the provincial and Andalusian levels before receiving national recognition.

The federation wanted to focus the 2026 edition on initiatives that arise in rural areas. According to its organisers, the award aims to recognise projects

“that emerge from the most rural areas, and that care for the smallest to make our country great”
Female entrepreneurship also plays a significant role in the call for nominations.

On the occasion of its silver anniversary, the awards have distinguished eleven initiatives or careers. In the entrepreneur category, alongside Escolano, the real estate work of Enrika Vicente (Grupo AVAM) has been awarded. The main award has gone to the Support Plan for Self-Employed Workers of the Government of the Canary Islands, for measures such as the zero rate and support for work-life balance.

In associationism, the General Council of Commercial Agents of Spain and the General Council of Notaries have been jointly recognised. The award for the best programme in favour of self-employed workers has been given to the Region of Murcia and Castilla-La Mancha. The career awards have distinguished Jesús Burgos, a businessman from Segovia, and Carmen Riveiro, a Galician artisan. In the press category, the recognition has gone to María Rey (Telemadrid) and Pilar García de la Granja (Cadena COPE).
