The OCU recommends reviewing the tax situation before December 31, 2026. Decisions made by that date can influence the tax return to be filed in 2027.

According to El Periódico, the Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU) advises reviewing the tax situation before December 31 to identify possible deductions, offset capital gains and losses, and not miss out on tax advantages for the year.

The tax return for 2026 will be filed in 2027, but the OCU warns that waiting until the start of the campaign may be too late for some operations. Once the year is closed, certain actions affecting the income tax for that year can no longer be carried out.

Those who have sold shares, investment funds, or other assets during 2026 can check if they have realised capital gains or losses and if they have negative balances pending compensation from previous years. Before selling an asset, it is advisable to study its tax implications.

In pension plans, contributions that meet legal requirements reduce the general taxable base. The general limit for individual contributions is 1,500 euros per year, although there are increases for certain corporate social security systems. The benefit depends on each taxpayer's tax situation, and benefits are taxed when withdrawn.

In housing, buying, selling, or renting a property can have tax implications that need to be calculated before the year ends. Owners can also review deductible rental expenses. For 2026, deductions for energy efficiency improvement works remain, which require verified reductions in energy consumption or demand and certificates issued by competent technicians.
