The Spanish company will build a transmission terminal and two 330 kV lines in Western Australia. The project will supply clean energy to one million homes.

Acciona has won a contract from the Government of Western Australia to build a new transmission terminal south of Darkan, 200 kilometres from Perth, and two 330 kV transmission lines. The amount totals 655 million Australian dollars, equivalent to 410 million euros, as reported by Europa Press.

The project, named Clean Energy Link East, will connect the new renewable developments in the area with existing networks and will supply clean energy to one million homes. The infrastructure supports the state’s commitment to close coal-fired power plants before 2030.

In addition to strengthening the security and reliability of electricity supply for industry and households, the installation will enable the necessary capacity to host future renewable generation plants in the region.

The development plan will prioritise the hiring of regional companies, boost the inclusion of the Aboriginal population, and promote the creation of technical jobs and specialised training programmes.

This contract adds to the previous award of Clean Energy Link North, a project worth 192 million euros for which the Spanish company is deploying 27 kilometres of overhead lines and 6.7 kilometres of 132 kV underground cable in the same state. This work will generate over 400 jobs and facilitate the integration of 1.4 GW of wind and renewable energy into the general grid.

In the field of major energy infrastructure in Australia, Acciona, in consortium with Genus, is advancing in the construction of the Eastern section of the HumeLink transmission line for the public operator of New South Wales. With an investment of 850 million euros, the project includes the design and laying of 227 kilometres of 500 kV overhead lines and the expansion of the Bannaby substation.
