Aena Brasil will add connections to Toronto, Montreal and Dallas, and will resume flights to Asunción, Lima, Salta and Mendoza. The Spanish operator manages 18 airports in the country with 63 million annual passengers.

The international airport of Rio de Janeiro will expand its offer of international flights in the coming months with new routes and an increase in frequencies to destinations in North America, Europe and South America, as announced by the president of Aena Brasil, Santiago Yus, at a press conference reported by Infobae.

The plan includes new connections with Toronto, Montreal and Dallas, as well as flights to South American cities. It also includes the resumption of services and an increase in frequencies on existing routes, such as those connecting Rio with New York, Paris, Miami, Frankfurt, Lisbon, Porto, Atlanta and Panama City.

The changes will begin to take effect in October and will continue in November and December, coinciding with the start of the high travel season for the end of the year. Among the new features are connections to New York operated by different airlines and the strengthening of flights to Toronto.

The international terminal in Rio will also have new connections or the resumption of flights to Asunción, Lima, Salta and Mendoza, while Rosario will be added to the offer starting in January, with five weekly flights.

For the domestic market, the president of Aena Brasil said that the airport will strengthen connections with Brazilian destinations and also plans to expand the offer of flights to Santiago de Chile, with services from Latam, Sky Airline and JetSMART.

“Aena has been working since March, at the same time it obtained the award of the concession, to expand the airport's connectivity through negotiations with airlines,” Yus stated.

The aim, he noted, is to strengthen the airport's role as an international connection point and improve its connection with other Brazilian cities.

Aena manages 18 airports in Brazil, with a combined annual traffic of 63 million passengers. The Spanish operator won the concession for the international airport in Rio until 2039, in an auction where it offered 2.9 billion reais (about 580 million dollars / 520 million euros at today's exchange rate). It also manages 81 airports and two heliports in five countries, including 46 terminals in Spain, 12 in Mexico, three in the United Kingdom and two in Jamaica.
