BBVA Foundation Mexico has concluded its campaign to support Venezuela with 60 tonnes of humanitarian aid and 3.6 million pesos raised, which will be delivered to Caritas Mexicana.

BBVA Foundation Mexico has officially ended its campaign to support Venezuela with a total of 60 tonnes of humanitarian aid and 3,612,979.75 Mexican pesos raised, according to bbva.com. The funds will be allocated to Caritas Mexicana I.A.P., which, along with Caritas Internationalis and Caritas Venezuela, will initiate early recovery actions in the affected communities.

The response was organised in several phases. In July, BBVA Foundation Mexico and Fundación Televisa, with the support of the Government of Mexico, coordinated an initial shipment of 5,000 food parcels, equivalent to 30 tonnes of food and essential products. On July 29, a second shipment of another 5,000 food parcels and 30 tonnes was sent, bringing the total to 10,000 food parcels for the affected families.

In parallel, the foundation kept its fundraising channels open for civil society, clients, collaborators, and partners to contribute. The donations reached 3,612,979.75 pesos.

“Economic recovery will be promoted through cash-for-work programs for individuals and the strengthening of family micro-enterprises led by caregivers. The capacities of individuals and community committees in child protection, self-care, and psychological first aid will also be strengthened,” explained Fr. Francisco de Asís de la Rosa Patrón, director of Caritas Mexicana I.A.P.

De la Rosa detailed that specialised psychosocial support will be provided and community protection mechanisms will be reinforced, prioritising girls, boys, and adolescents in vulnerable situations. Assistance will also be given to individuals to replace identity documents to facilitate their access to rights such as education and health.

This fundraising effort includes the initial donation of 1 million pesos that BBVA Foundation Mexico provided to the Mexican Red Cross for emergency and humanitarian assistance following the earthquakes. In total, the foundation's response to the emergency in Venezuela reached over 4.4 million pesos between the institutional donation and the funds raised, in addition to the 60 tonnes of humanitarian aid.

Those interested in consulting the details of the campaign can do so on the BBVA Mexico website set up for this initiative.
