The restaurant Coque, with two Michelin stars, launches 'Eat with Art', an autumn-winter menu pairing 15 dishes with artworks. The price is 490 euros without wine pairing.
The restaurant Coque, boasting two Michelin stars and three Repsol Suns, celebrates its 50th anniversary with a new autumn-winter menu called Eat with Art. This proposal, the result of collaboration between chef Mario Sandoval and curator Juan Alfaro, traverses the various spaces of the Madrid venue, pairing each of its 15 dishes with a piece of art, from Tàpies to Joana Vasconcelos. The price is 490 euros without wine pairing, as reported by elespanol.com.
The menu is now available to all customers. Coque, founded by the grandparents of the current owners in Humanes, marks half a century of history. In 2017, the family moved the restaurant to Madrid and closed the original establishment.
“To go to school, we passed by the restaurant. We lived in the attic, went down the stairs, crossed the kitchen and the dining rooms, and went out to the street,” recalls Mario Sandoval about his childhood.
The three Sandoval brothers run the business: Mario in the kitchen, Diego in the dining room, and Rafael in the cellar. The name of the restaurant comes from the nickname of their grandfather Álvaro, who was called 'Coque' because of the word for apricot. The first Michelin star was awarded in 2006 and the second in 2016.
The family garden they had in Humanes has been moved to El Escorial, to the space El Jaral de la Mira, while the farm remains in the hands of some cousins. Mario Sandoval highlights that he learned from his parents about marinades, roasts, and stocks, which he defines as the DNA of Coque.
The restaurant maintains its goal of achieving a third Michelin star. The Eat with Art experience can be reserved at the establishment itself in Madrid.
