Dia España plans to open 100 new stores in 2026 and another 100 in 2027. The chain will refinance its debt in 2027 and is opening the door to resuming dividend payments.
The supermarket chain Dia España expects to open 100 new stores in 2026 and another 100 in 2027, as reported by diariosigloxxi.com. The CEO, Ricardo Álvarez, explained this during his speech at the 41st Aecoc Congress of Mass Consumption.
The company will refinance its debt in 2027, a move that, according to Álvarez, will support expansion and reopen the possibility of paying dividends to its shareholders. Dia currently has a debt ratio of 0.6, below the threshold of 1 that indicates the right time to undertake the operation.
The strategy of recent years has focused on stabilising before growing. Of the original 3,100 stores, around 2,300 have adapted to the new model and were remodelled between 2021 and 2024. Now, the chain is focusing on stores of 300 and 500 square metres.
Álvarez stated that 97% of the stores are already profitable and that average sales have doubled after three consecutive years of profits. According to the executive, these formats can work in both urban and rural areas.
We are comfortable, and this is where we believe our model fits best in terms of economic ratios for profitability
Regarding the product range, the business model is split 50% between private label and manufacturer brands. Álvarez noted that the company has maintained this ratio since 2010 and will continue to include manufacturer brands due to their contributions in sales, innovation, and quality.
Finally, regarding artificial intelligence, the CEO considered that it will be the revolution, although the company applies it practically in processes where it can add value.
