The Madrileño of the Year Foundation recognises José Bogas for his contribution to the energy sector and his connection to the capital. The event took place at the Royal Collections Gallery.

On 22 October 2026, the former CEO of Endesa, José Bogas, received the VI Madrileño of the Year Award at a ceremony held at the Royal Collections Gallery. The ceremony was concluded by the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.

According to Forbes, the jury of the Madrileño of the Year Foundation highlighted his commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility, as well as his institutional, academic, and international projection.

In his speech, Bogas defended the role of companies in their environment and their obligation to give back to society part of what they receive.

“Companies are part of the society in which they operate and have the responsibility to give back a part of what they receive.”

Bogas explained that during his time at the helm of Endesa, he believed that the company should contribute to Madrid more than just customers, offices, or a corporate headquarters, and should be perceived as part of the city. Martínez-Almeida described him as a great businessman and highlighted his professional, personal, and family trajectory.

Bogas is an industrial engineer from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICAI). He has dedicated 44 years to Endesa, of which 12 were as CEO. He remains a member of the board of directors of the energy company.

During his last term as CEO, he promoted a strategy focused on renewable energies, the digitalisation of operations, and the electrification of demand. He also chaired Enel Green Power España, Endesa Energía, and Endesa Generación, and was a director of Enel Iberia.

The Madrileño of the Year Award recognises individuals or institutions for their actions benefiting the city, their contribution to the economic, social, or cultural development of Madrid, or their commitment to causes that promote the progress of Madrid society. Previous awardees include Gregorio Marañón, Mario Vargas Llosa, Juan Abarca, Carmen Iglesias, and Carlos Sainz. The jury for this sixth edition was chaired by Ángel Asensio, president of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce.
