KYMCO Spain has obtained the 'Calculate and Reduce' seal from the Ministry for Ecological Transition for the first time. Its average emission intensity decreased by 8.06% in the period 2022-2024.

The company KYMCO Spain, part of Human Mobility, has received the 'Calculate and Reduce' seal granted by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, as reported by ABC. The distinction requires more than just measurement: the company must meet the reduction criteria set by the Administration. In its case, the average intensity of its emissions in 2022-2024 decreased by 8.06% compared to the three-year period 2021-2023.

The seal places the firm in a small group within the Carbon Footprint Registry. Of the 21,143 footprints registered as of September 2026, only 522 have this seal and cover Scope 1+2 and 3. Among small and medium-sized enterprises, the number drops to 136 registrations, representing 0.64% of the total.

KYMCO Spain began its voluntary measurement in 2019. It was a pioneer in Spain in certifying its footprint according to the ISO 14064-1 standard and registering it with the ministry. The calculation includes indirect emissions from Scope 3, such as transportation and distribution, employee commuting, and business travel. The scope covers the import and marketing of motorcycles and spare parts.

The 2024 certificate is the first to reflect the diversion of maritime routes around the Cape of Good Hope. Routes from Kaohsiung (Taiwan) increased from 17,616 kilometers in 2023 to 23,235 kilometers in 2024, and those from Shanghai (China) from 18,596 to 24,370 kilometers.

Transportation accounts for 93% of the company's footprint in 2024, with 1,011.71 tons of CO₂ equivalent out of a total of 1,092.54 tons using a market-based approach. Compared to 2019, direct emissions have been reduced by 29.64% and indirect emissions from transportation by only 4.86%.

“This seal is very important for us because it certifies the path we have been following over the last few years,” stated Ernesto Ko, president of Human Mobility.

Ko acknowledges that transportation and logistics remain the main challenge. According to him, the company will continue to work on this front even if external conditions are not favourable.
