The operator deploys a real-time participation platform that allowed 7,000 attendees at Jorge Drexler's concert to choose a song from the repertoire using a QR code.

Telefónica has launched a real-time participation platform at the Movistar Arena that enabled the 7,000 attendees at Jorge Drexler's concert to select a song from the night's repertoire, as reported by Digital AV Magazine. The system debuted at the Madrid venue and relies on cloud technologies and a content distribution network to manage thousands of concurrent users.

The voting did not require downloading any application or completing a registration. Attendees scanned a unique QR code visible on the venue's screens from an hour and a half before the concert started and chose from several songs proposed by the artist. The results were displayed instantly on the pavilion's screens.

The infrastructure included auto-scaling capabilities, which adjusted resources based on demand, and a CDN to ensure performance and availability during traffic peaks. The platform was integrated over the communications network deployed by Telefónica at the venue.

The most voted song was La trama y el desenlace, which had not been played at any other concert on the tour. The singer-songwriter also performed the second most voted song, Milonga del moro judío.

The initiative began before the concert: ticket buyers received a video detailing the tour's story, from the conception of the album in the studio to the eight nominations for the Latin Grammy for the album. The following day, attendees received a summary video with a message from Drexler himself.

The initiative is supported by the improvement of connectivity at Movistar Arena, where Telefónica has quadrupled mobile node installations. The deployment includes 4G, high-performance 5G, and 5G SA, with capabilities for Network Slicing and Edge Computing, as well as millimetre wave (mmWave) bands adapted for high user concentration scenarios. The works have primarily been carried out in the venue's Bowl area.

The system will be available for future concerts and sporting events held at Movistar Arena, where the operator plans to continue applying this live voting platform.
