The PSOE of the Region of Murcia demands that the regional president, Fernando López Miras, support new improvements to the minimum wage. Socialist spokesperson Carmina Fernández claims that over 100,000 Murcian workers benefit from the increases.
The spokesperson for the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Regional Assembly, Carmina Fernández, has asked the president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, to support new improvements to the interprofessional minimum wage (SMI). The request was made during the government control plenary held this Wednesday, as reported by cartagenaactualidad.com.
Fernández has accused the head of the Murcian Executive of avoiding explicit support for the increase to not contradict the position of the national president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo. According to her data, the Region of Murcia has the second lowest salary in Spain, with a difference of €265 per month compared to the national average.
The deputy pointed out that one in five employees in the community benefits from the updates to the SMI, that is, more than 100,000 workers according to her figures. She specifically mentioned the sectors of agriculture, hospitality, and care, and linked the situation to the economic policies of the last 31 years of Popular Party governments in the Region.
Fernández recalled that the Government of Spain has raised the SMI from €736 to €1,221 per month, an approximate accumulated increase of 66%. She also mentioned the tax measures approved by the central Executive to reduce the taxation of those earning this salary.
In the debate on the procedure, the spokesperson defended that the central government maintain the ability to set the minimum wage by royal decree, regardless of whether there is an agreement between business and union organizations. She believes that conditioning increases on consensus with employers could hinder future improvements.
"For all these people, improving it is a matter of justice so they can make ends meet," she stated.
