The party Ceuta Ya! has voted against ACEMSA's budget for the upcoming financial year. It rejects the projected 4.5% increase in the water bill.
The budget of ACEMSA for the next financial year will not have the support of Ceuta Ya!, which voted against it at the board meeting held this Friday. According to ceutaactualidad.com, the rejection is due to the 4.5% increase expected in the water bill within the accounts presented by the Government.
The party, led by Mohamed Mustafa, considers this increase "completely unacceptable." It argues that it exceeds the growth of private wages, which averages 3.05% in Spain, and that in Ceuta, salary growth is even lower.
"It is unacceptable that a basic and essential service like water imposes an extra burden on the most humble economies," the party defends in a statement sent after the meeting.
Ceuta Ya! believes it is incompatible to support accounts with such a tariff increase and its position on the social situation of the city. Therefore, its representation on the board of directors of the municipal company has voted against.
The party bases its rejection on the poverty indicators of the city and warns that the increase would particularly affect the sectors with fewer resources. It insists that the water bill should not rise above wage growth.
