The economic spokesperson for Vox in Congress, José María Figaredo, defends in an interview a two-bracket income tax (15% up to 70,000 euros and 25% above) and the elimination of VAT on first homes. The proposal includes removing the tax on electricity production and liberalising land to tackle the housing crisis.

The Secretary General of the Parliamentary Group of Vox in Congress and national spokesperson for Economy, José María Figaredo Álvarez-Sala, detailed in an interview granted this Sunday to the digital newspaper El Debate the fiscal and housing lines of his party. The interview comes two days after the Lower House repealed the two royal decree laws on rentals and housing presented by the Government, as reported by the publication lasvocesdelpueblo.com.

Among the fiscal measures, Figaredo proposes a reform of the income tax with only two brackets: a rate of 15% for incomes up to 70,000 euros and a rate of 25% for higher incomes, with a minimum exempt amount of 22,000 euros. The estimated cost of this reduction is around 46 billion euros, a figure that, according to the leader, is viable if political spending is cut and annual subsidies over 100,000 euros to parties, unions, and business associations are eliminated.

Regarding housing, Vox's plan includes the elimination of VAT on the purchase of the first habitual home, total exemption from Inheritance and Donations Tax, and the recovery of the deduction for investment in housing. Figaredo argues that Spain must become a country of middle-class homeowners again and that the supply of rental apartments has halved in the last five years.

“The Spain of Pedro Sánchez has created an economic model whose only growth is based on immigrants”

The economic spokesperson for Vox attributes Spanish inflation, the highest in the OECD, to government measures that he considers inflationary. To correct this, he demands a reduction in taxes on fuels and energy, eliminating the Tax on the Value of Electricity Production (IVPEE), the Hydrocarbons Tax, and energy VAT.

Figaredo has also warned that there are completed real estate developments that cannot be marketed due to lack of access to electricity supply. He claims that the interruptibility mechanism, which allows large industrial consumers to be disconnected to avoid blackouts, has been activated more times in the last year than in the previous five combined. “That’s because they have wrecked the Spanish electrical system in the Spanish Electricity Network,” he stated.

Regarding urban planning procedures, the leader estimates an average of 15 years from the purchase of raw land until it becomes final land ready for building. His proposal involves liberalising land, making public plots available for purchase and social rental promotions, and increasing the heights permitted in municipal ordinances.

Vox's economic programme, which the party calls “The Hexagon of Prosperity,” is presented as an alternative to the model of the PP and PSOE. Figaredo has defended these measures in the interview published this Sunday, two days after the repeal of the housing decrees in Congress.
