PP senator for Burgos, Salvador Foronda, questioned the finance minister, Arcadi España, about the record revenue of €200 billion until July and demanded the return of €1.3 billion as per a ruling from the CJEU.
The senator from the Popular Parliamentary Group for Burgos, Salvador Foronda, questioned finance minister Arcadi España on Tuesday about the destination of public revenues. In his speech during the Plenary, Foronda stated that Spaniards "pay more taxes than ever and there is no money for roads, trains, research, social issues, new mattresses for the Police, or for those 130,000 homes they promised." He posed the question to the minister: "Where is the money?", as reported by pp.es.
The senator highlighted the revenue figure from the Tax Agency: by July 2026, it had collected €200 billion in net tax revenues, a 10.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025. In light of that figure, Foronda reiterated his question to the minister: "Where is the money?".
"Why doesn’t the Treasury return the €1.3 billion from the tax modifications that I was charged individually according to the CJEU ruling?"
Foronda reminded that, "at 4% interest, it has generated €64 million in interest today." He added that this money amounts to "320 apartments at €200,000 each, and with the €53 million from the Plus Ultra rescue, that’s another 26 homes." "Go to Puerta del Sol and tell the campers," he snapped at the minister.
The senator denounced the difference in treatment when it is the Treasury that must return funds: "the file travels with urgency and is always endorsed with four words, 'we are working on it'"; whereas, in the opposite case, "the Treasury's letter arrives at home before the Amazon delivery driver." He demanded from the minister: "Stop watching the taxi meter rise in a stopped taxi without a driver and comply with the ruling. Prudence is paying what is owed; and you will see how you regain happiness."
In his speech, Foronda also reproached Arcadi España for not having heeded his request from the previous Plenary to "control the SEPI and dismiss those who have been indicted. He hasn’t done it." He asked: "Since when can a public body force the majority shareholder to renounce their political rights as a shareholder and leave the company for cooperating with justice, under the threat that the SEPI would not carry out the debt restructuring?".
The senator criticized that, "for this Government, cooperating with Justice is punished; and criticizing judges is rewarded; that is their particular institutional concept of working." Furthermore, he accused the minister of being "fully dedicated to the great state investigation: Whose were Zapatero's jewels? Did the King of Saudi Arabia give them to him or the lady with the kiss at the UN?".
