The Deputy Secretary of Economy of the PP, Alberto Nadal, assures that the economic crisis in Ceuta will be addressed in the first General State Budgets of a potential Government of Feijóo.
The Deputy Secretary of Economy and Sustainable Development of the Popular Party, Alberto Nadal, maintains that the crisis facing Ceuta will be addressed in the first General State Budgets of a potential government led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo. This is reported by El Faro de Ceuta in an interview with the party leader, in which he places the city among his party's priorities.
Nadal quantifies the impact of the drop in revenue from commerce, hospitality, and the port, stating that only Covid caused something similar. According to his analysis, this time the cause is "the lack of foresight of a Government" and not a natural phenomenon.
"Spain must focus on Ceuta"
Among the measures he demands are the reinforcement of security at the border and of the Security Forces, the maintenance of the tax regime and social security bonuses, which he believes should extend to all important sectors of the local economy, and the modernisation of infrastructures, with the port as a "fundamental asset". He also mentions the electrical interconnection, a project that, he recalls, his party proposed in 2015 and which has been delayed.
Nadal reminds that the State has direct competencies in health and education in Ceuta and Melilla, and proposes to strengthen those areas and the links with the Peninsula. For the leader, the city must "be at the top" of budgetary priorities, and adds that the PP will seek more efficient public spending to direct money towards growth and investment.
Finally, the PP leader points to the city's economic strategy: having a port, tourist capacity, and a strategic position that, in his view, could turn Ceuta into a centre for new technologies in Spain.
