The Community of Madrid ends September with 3,927,854 members of the Social Security, a historic high for that month, after gaining 148,072 workers in a year. The self-employed reach 447,412, also a record.
The Community of Madrid closed September with 3,927,854 members of the Social Security, the highest figure in the historical series for that month, according to data published by the central government. In the last twelve months, the region has added 148,072 workers, an increase of 3.9%, equivalent to 406 new jobs daily.
The growth in Madrid exceeds the national average by five tenths, as reported by the publication tribunadelamoraleja.com. In the monthly evolution, Madrid incorporated 55,861 contributors in September, accounting for 60.5% of all new members in the country, with an increase of 1.4%, one point above the national average.
With this data, the Community is on the verge of four million affiliated workers and faces the last quarter of the year with nearly 3.93 million contributors.
Self-employment also marks a new high. Madrid has 447,412 self-employed workers after adding 11,929 in the last twelve months, a growth of 2.7%, six tenths above the national average. Just in September, the number of self-employed increased by 3,642 people, a 0.8% rise compared to August and double the national growth.
The affiliation data comes after the INE indicated this week that Madrid contributes 20% of the national GDP. The regional government also highlights the region's role as a destination for foreign investment and its tax model.
The evolution of employment reinforces the Community's weight in the Spanish labour market, with the self-employed also at historic highs.
