The association of self-employed and hospitality entrepreneurs rejects the general strike on November 11 and accuses UGT and CCOO of prioritising electoral interests. It warns of irrecoverable losses for small businesses.

The organisation SOS Hostelería, which groups self-employed and entrepreneurs in the sector across Spain and is part of CONPYMES, has rejected the general strike called for November 11. According to azarplus.com, the entity claims that this is a politically motivated mobilization with which UGT and CCOO intend to intervene in the electoral debate and influence the campaign.

The association warns that hospitality establishments will be one of the sectors most affected by the strike. Unlike other activities, their revenue is daily and cannot be recovered afterwards: each lost day means income that disappears, while entrepreneurs continue to pay rents, supplies, salaries, and tax obligations.

SOS Hostelería adds that the ongoing protests and mobilizations are already causing losses to businesses located nearby, which see their activity affected by circumstances beyond their control.

The president of the organisation, Rafael Asensio, has denounced that the strike will incur costs for workers, the self-employed, and companies without resolving the problems it claims to address:

«This strike will cause losses to workers, the self-employed, and companies, but it will not solve any of the problems it claims to combat. Its objective is not labour or economic, but electoral».

Asensio has insisted that an establishment that loses a day of revenue cannot recover it the next day, while expenses and obligations continue to arrive without anyone compensating the self-employed.

The organisation considers it particularly serious that the cost of a mobilization is passed on to small entrepreneurs, which, in its view, will exacerbate the difficulties already faced by thousands of establishments. SOS Hostelería has also expressed its support for CONPYMES' statements against the call.

«The problems of workers and small businesses need solutions, not political strikes. One cannot pretend to defend employment by punishing those who create and maintain it».

The general strike is called for November 11 by UGT and CCOO. SOS Hostelería is a representative organisation of self-employed and entrepreneurs in the hospitality sector across Spain and is integrated into CONPYMES.
