The Viernes de Garage programme, driven by BBVA's IT and Talent & Culture areas, has been recognised at the Adecco Innovation Awards. The initiative has trained 96 employees and developed 18 projects in its first three editions.

The bank BBVA has received the Adecco Innovation Awards for its technological training and reskilling programme Viernes de Garage, as reported by bbva.com. The award recognises an experience that reserves part of Fridays for employees to learn, experiment, and create solutions during their working hours.

The proposal was launched in 2023 by the IT and Talent & Culture areas, aiming to transform work hours into learning time and achieve concrete results for the business. In its first three editions, 96 employees have participated, and 18 projects have been developed.

For four months, teams work on strategic challenges of the entity using technologies that are not yet part of their daily use, with expert guidance and continuous feedback. The goal is to produce a concrete deliverable that demonstrates a new capability and a potential solution for the business.

"Innovation arises when we give talent the space to challenge boundaries and build the future," says Leandro Álvarez, Head of Engineering & Data at BBVA in Argentina.

The initiative began in Systems and later expanded to other IT areas, led by AI Transformation & Engineering Argentina and supported by Talent & Culture. In 2025, it also incorporated professionals from Finance, reflecting the programme's cross-functional nature, one of the most valued aspects by participants.

"Anticipating technological change by evolving our own talent," explains Vanesa Bories, Director of Talent and Culture at BBVA in Argentina, regarding the objectives of the reskilling processes.

Upon receiving the award, Adrián Carbajal described the employee experience as "a true talent management strategy that drives business and engagement." Florencia Grandío dedicated the award to the Talent and Culture team and highlighted their "passion, conviction, and effort."

Fernando Troilo, HR Advisory and professor at UCEMA, noted that the awarded cases successfully linked initiatives with concrete indicators. In 2025, the spirit of the programme extended to the entire BBVA Group through _ableChallenge.
