Telefónica has launched its own platform to manage water meters. It centralises readings, equipment status and alerts for leaks or anomalies.

According to laecuaciondigital.com, Telefónica has implemented its own platform for the smart management of water meters. The product expands its IoT offering with a software layer aimed at managing companies and public administrations, which can centralise consumption readings, equipment status and their communications.

The tool allows for the configuration of alerts to detect leaks, anomalies or failures without the need to supervise each device in person. According to available information, it also alerts of possible physical tampering of the meter and the absence of new readings.

The platform works with meters from different manufacturers, allowing for the operation of device parks built in phases and with different communication technologies without relying on a single hardware provider. Operators can check current and historical consumption, generate reports and review the status of the equipment from the same interface.

The service integrates natively with Kite, the Telefónica Tech system for managing IoT connections centrally. Kite allows for the control of lines and connected devices via 4G, 5G, NB-IoT or LTE-M, with remote monitoring of data consumption and coverage.

From the platform, parameters of compatible meters can also be modified remotely, such as the frequency of information transmission or the request for a new reading. According to the company, this can reduce the need for technical staff to travel.

The launch coincides with the PERTE for the Digitalisation of the Water Cycle, a programme that aims to mobilise 3.060 million euros between public and private investment to control resources, reduce losses and extend digital monitoring.

“The digitalisation of the water sector requires simple, efficient tools capable of transforming data into useful information for daily management,” says Dario Cesena, IoT director at Telefónica Tech, who notes that the platform has been developed internally.
