The province of Tarragona registered 1,026 housing mortgages in July, an 8.8% year-on-year increase, with an average amount of €136,919. The total capital lent reached €140 million.

The province of Tarragona recorded 1,026 housing mortgages during the month of July, representing an increase of 8.8% year-on-year compared to the same month last year. This is reported by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) in its data published this Monday, as reported by diaridetarragona.com.

The average amount of the mortgages constituted in the Tarragona regions stood at €136,919, with a total capital lent that reached €140 million.

Across Catalonia, 8,858 housing mortgages were signed in July, a 4.9% increase compared to the same month in 2025. This figure represents the highest for a July since 2010, when 9,547 transactions were recorded. The annual growth rate moderated compared to the previous two years, when increases exceeded 26%.

The capital financed by mortgages in Catalonia rose to an average of €196,005, a 4.76% increase from €187,091 in July of last year. The total amount lent in the community reached €1,736.2 million, a 9.9% year-on-year increase.

In Spain as a whole, the number of housing mortgages fell by 3.5% year-on-year to 43,372 signatures. The average amount stood at €180,785, a 10.9% increase from a year earlier.

The average interest rate on new housing mortgages rose to 3.01% in Spain, in a context marked by the tightening of the European Central Bank's (ECB) monetary policy. The ECB raised all three official interest rates by 25 basis points in June, to 2.25% for the deposit facility, to contain inflationary pressures arising, among other factors, from the rising energy costs due to the war in the Middle East.

The total number of housing mortgages constituted has been experiencing uninterrupted year-on-year increases since November 2025.
