Average membership in the Social Security reached 22.62 million members in October, after adding 186,612 people during the month. This is reported by lanocion.es, which includes the monthly employment data published this Wednesday, 4 November 2026.
During the same period, registered unemployment increased by 43,128 people, reaching 2,422,633. The monthly increase is the largest for an October since 2020, although the total volume is the lowest for that month since 2007. In the annual comparison, registered unemployment has decreased by 21,133 people, a 0.86% drop.
The education sector was the biggest driver of membership, showing the largest increase for an October in the series. Membership counts the new registrations in the Social Security system, while registered unemployment includes those registered as unemployed according to administrative criteria, meaning that both indicators cannot be subtracted to calculate a single employment balance.
By activity, unemployment rose mainly in services, with 26,853 more unemployed, in a month marked by the end of the summer season. Industry added 1,911, agriculture 1,547, and construction 102. Additionally, the group with no previous employment grew by 12,715 registrants.
The registered unemployment data comes from public employment services, while membership figures are published by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. The October figures are those published today and will be updated with the data for the next month.
