The Council of Ministers has authorised a call for 15 million euros to maintain and develop the 75 excellence centres for Vocational Training spread across Spain.

The Council of Ministers has authorised a new call for aid of 15 million euros for the maintenance and development of the state network of excellence centres for Vocational Training, launched in 2022. According to Europa Press, the authorisation was approved this Tuesday at the proposal of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports.

The network consists of 75 centres located throughout Spain, specialising in 18 strategic sectors of the economy, such as automotive, hospitality, healthcare, renewable energies, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. Its aim is to adapt education to the constantly changing Spanish economy and prepare young people for current and future professions.

The Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Milagros Tolón, explained this in the press conference following the Council of Ministers. According to her words, the network has facilitated cooperation between centres from different autonomous communities and has strengthened collaboration with companies and reference entities:

“What this network has done is promote the creation of spaces for cooperation between centres from different autonomous communities and it has also strengthened collaboration with companies and reference entities, contributing to linking training with the needs of our labour market and also increasing competitiveness in the productive fabric.”

The aid can be requested by the public administrations competent in Vocational Training, with a maximum of 200,000 euros per centre. The money will be distributed over the years 2026 and 2027.

Among the functions of the centres are to bring technological innovation into the classrooms, improve teacher training, and anticipate the new needs of the market. Tolón emphasised that innovation must reach all areas so that young people can prepare for future jobs regardless of where they live.
