The general elections on November 29 may delay the signing of the Central Park agreement in Alicante, which still needs to go through Hacienda and the Council of Ministers. The works are estimated at €220.4 million.
According to Información, the proximity of the November 29 general elections jeopardises the next steps for the Central Park in Alicante. The text of the agreement for distributing the funding was considered finalised last Friday, but it still needs to complete several procedures in the involved administrations before its definitive signing by the Ministry of Transport, through Adif, the Alicante City Council, and the Generalitat Valenciana.
Two of these procedures depend on the central Government and take place in Madrid. First, Hacienda, led by Arcadi España, must give its legal and technical approval to the text. Then, if the initial draft is validated and no corrections are requested, the Council of Ministers must officially approve it.
The Generalitat and the City Council, whose elections are held in May 2027, also have their approvals pending. In the municipal case, the file requires reports from Urban Planning, Intervention, and Legal Advice, followed by the approval of the budget allocation, which amounts to €55.10 million over ten years. The regulations do not set any maximum deadline for these procedures.
Even if Hacienda completes its review in record time, the Government would have four ordinary meetings of the Council of Ministers before the electoral date, according to the information gathered.
Funding distribution
The agreement is limited to the works for the partial covering and adaptation of the station's track bed, maintaining its current level. The works will allow pedestrian continuity of the adjacent streets and connection through Bono Guarner street.
The cost of this action has been estimated at €220.4 million, including taxes. Adif will contribute 50%, the Alicante City Council 25%, and the Generalitat Valenciana 25%, with a payment schedule over ten years. Thus, the City Council and the Generalitat will jointly assume €55.10 million.
The action will be coordinated with the urbanisation of sector OI/2, the urbanisation over the covering slab, and other associated works, such as the new Renfe station, the new Central TRAM Station, and the underground parking, which are not part of the agreement.
