On Tuesday, October 20, the Council of Ministers will approve an investment of 45 million euros for affordable university accommodation, along with improvements in social benefits.

With the general elections set for November 29, the Government has six Council of Ministers meetings to push forward its pending initiatives. The first, on Tuesday, October 20, will approve a package of improvements in social benefits and an investment of 45 million euros to expand affordable university accommodation, according to Infobae.

The remaining sessions are scheduled for October 27 and on November 3, 10, 17, and 24. The election campaign will start on November 13, meaning the last meetings will take place during the electoral contest. Not all pending reforms will be able to be approved within this timeframe.

The royal decree-law promoted by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration expands protection for women with pathologies associated with menopause and for victims of gender-based violence. In both cases, the temporary disability benefit will be 60% of the regulatory base until the twentieth day of leave and 75% thereafter.

The widow's pension for de facto couples will also change. It will be sufficient to have children in common to prove the relationship, and a period of 12 months will be opened to review applications that were rejected for this reason.

Families caring for minors with cancer or other serious illnesses will be able to receive the corresponding benefit simultaneously or alternately from both parents. Protection may be extended beyond 26 years when the requirements for grade III dependency or severe disability are met.

Extraordinary pensions resulting from terrorist acts will have a minimum amount of two minimum interprofessional salaries, that is, 2,442 euros per month, an increase of 36% compared to the previous minimum. Orphans of victims of gender-based violence will have the same threshold in contributory benefits, and non-contributory benefits may reach that amount.

The Food Payment Guarantee Fund will triple its maximum advance per beneficiary, from 100 to 300 euros, and will extend its duration. The aim is to protect minors when one of the parents fails to meet the obligation to pay alimony.

As the Cortes have been dissolved due to the electoral call, the decree must be validated in the Permanent Deputation of Congress within the legal timeframe, as occurred with the housing decrees rejected in Congress on October 2.
