Three students from the University of Jaén achieve the first prize in Media & E-Sport and the second national place with Basesport at Startup Olé Salamanca 2026.

The startup Basesport, driven by three students from the University of Jaén (UJA), has won the first prize in the Media & E-Sport category and the second national place in the overall competition of emerging projects at the Startup Olé Salamanca 2026 event, as reported by horajaen.com. The event, in its thirteenth edition, took place from October 13 to 15 and brought together over 60 startups.

Basesport is a technological platform aimed at connecting sports, technology, and opportunities in grassroots sports. The team consists of Mario Sánchez Torres, CEO of the project and a student of Primary Education; Sergio García Carmona, responsible for software development and a student of Industrial Engineering; and Juan Carlos Sánchez Torres, who manages legal aspects and is pursuing a Master's in Law and Advocacy.

During the three days, the team presented their business model to investors, corporations, and institutional representatives from over 40 countries. The second place in the Pitch Competition grants them direct access to the Startup Olé Accelerator Miami 2027 and Startup Olé Accelerator Marbella 2027.

“Our project was born with the idea of connecting sports, technology, and opportunities, betting on useful and real solutions for our environment”

Mario Sánchez Torres expressed it this way, referring to the local focus of the project. Sergio García Carmona highlighted the experience of defending the idea before investors.

Basesport is currently in the pre-incubation phase at the UJA Business Incubator, with support from CADE Jaén and linked to the Lanzadera Misión Andalucía in Jaén. Before Salamanca, the project had already won the Santander X Explorer 2026 programme at UJA in May and had obtained second prize at the EDINT Data Day event, held in Jaén as part of the project The Power of Data, promoted by FEMP, the Provincial Council of Jaén, and UJA.

Throughout its journey, the project has benefited from the mentorship of Mónica Casanova, consultant and strategist. Basesport is now seeking new funding and collaboration avenues to develop its business model.
