The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has detected gluten in Santiveri Bio's buckwheat crispy toasts, labelled as 'gluten-free'. The product was initially distributed in 14 autonomous communities, including Castilla-La Mancha.
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued a food alert due to the presence of gluten in the buckwheat crispy toasts of the brand Santiveri Bio, marketed as 'gluten-free'. The warning, published on October 5 and disseminated by eldigitaldealbacete.com, affects 100-gram packages and is particularly aimed at individuals with celiac disease or other disorders related to the intake of this protein.
The implicated product is marketed under the name Buckwheat Crispy Toasts and has a preferred consumption date of December 1, 2027. The Federation of Celiac Associations of Spain (FACE) has identified batch 11227 as the affected one. The alert is registered under the reference ES2026/597.
The detection occurred through the company's own self-control systems, which communicated the results to health authorities. The information reached AESAN via the Coordinated Rapid Information Exchange System (SCIRI), following a notification from the health authorities of Castilla y León.
The initial distribution of the product reached 14 autonomous communities: Andalusia, Aragon, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Catalonia, Valencia, Galicia, Balearic Islands, La Rioja, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra, and Basque Country. Authorities do not rule out redistributions to other regions.
AESAN has conveyed the information through the food alert system to verify the withdrawal of affected products from marketing channels. The recommendation for individuals with health issues related to gluten is to refrain from consuming these toasts if they have them at home. The agency has clarified that consumption does not pose a risk to the rest of the population.
"The consumption of these toasts does not pose any risk to the rest of the population," AESAN has stated.
The alert only affects the specified product and does not imply a general withdrawal of all foods marketed by Santiveri. Consumers who have purchased the product can return it to the point of sale or contact the company for more information.
