The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Banca March have signed a guarantee agreement for €140 million that will allow the Spanish entity to grant up to €280 million in new financing to SMEs and mid-cap companies in Spain, as reported by territoriofintech.com.
The scheme works with a multiplier effect: each euro of EIB guarantee supports up to two euros of new financing. The funds will be allocated to both new productive investments and to cover working capital and liquidity needs of the beneficiary companies.
The agreement includes a territorial component: at least 50% of the financed investments must be executed in cohesion regions, those whose per capita income is below the EU average. The declared goal of both institutions is to improve business competitiveness and reduce disparities between regions.
This operation is part of the EIB's action line to support SMEs and midcaps by combining its guarantee instruments with the financing capacity of entities like Banca March. The Spanish bank will thus be able to offer resources on attractive terms to a business segment that employs a significant part of the Spanish workforce.
