The number of US small businesses using artificial intelligence has nearly tripled since 2023. In Spain, individual adoption is high, but only 19% of workers have received specific training.

According to ecosistemastartup.com, two out of three small businesses in the United States are already using artificial intelligence. This is indicated by the fifth annual report from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which places adoption at 66% compared to 23% recorded in 2023.

The same report adds that usage increased by eight points in the last year. 47% of firms state that AI is creating jobs, compared to 6% who associate it with job cuts. 84% plan to increase their use of technology in the next two to three years, and companies using AI are at least seven points more likely to report growth in sales, profits, and workforce.

In the European Union, an analysis by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission shows that AI usage in strategic sectors rose from 7% in 2021 to 18% in 2025. Across the European economy, the proportion increased from 8% to 20%. The most advanced sectors are culture, creativity, and media (38%), energy (34%), and electronic communications (30%).

For Spain, data from Eurostat places the country in a middle position within the EU. Small businesses represent over 90% of the Spanish business fabric, and their low adoption weighs on that figure. The barriers identified in the same analysis are access to financing, lack of specialized talent, and uncertainty about return on investment.

In terms of individual use, the Allianz Pulse report indicates that 55% of Spaniards use AI tools at least once a week, above the study average (48%) and on par with the United States. However, only 19% of workers have received specific training, and 46% state that their company offers no training.
