Wayra, the Corporate Venture Capital of Telefónica, gathered nearly 250 investors, startups, and corporations on Thursday for a new edition of its Investors Day, held at the Telefónica Foundation Space in Madrid, according to cibersur.com. The meeting coincided with the 15th anniversary of the operator's open innovation platform.
The day was held under the slogan 'Europe's Next Advantage' and focused on how Europe can turn its innovation capacity into a sustainable competitive advantage. Participants discussed the need to strengthen the continent's digital sovereignty and the role that technologies such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and advanced connectivity can play in enhancing European competitiveness and strategic autonomy.
"We have demonstrated that collaboration between startups, investors, and corporations is one of the most effective ways to transform innovation into business opportunities," said Andrés Saborido, CEO of Wayra, during the opening.
Saborido also noted that Wayra works to ensure that technologies with the greatest potential find customers, use cases, and growth pathways, and to contribute to Telefónica's goal of being the best access point for citizens and businesses to digital technologies.
One of the central moments was the roundtable 'Can Europe own its technology future?', featuring Carlos Moreira, founder and CEO of 33N; Guillaume d'Audiffret, General Partner of Noteus Partners; Alberto Gómez, Managing Partner of Adara Ventures; and Paloma Castellano, Investment Managing Director of Wayra. The session analyzed the challenges and opportunities Europe faces in developing, financing, and scaling its own technological capabilities.
The day continued with a panel dedicated to SpaceTech, featuring Jaume Sanpera, CEO and founder of Sateliot, and Francisco Boira, co-founder and CCO of Kreios Space, moderated by Agustín Moro, Innovation Partnerships & Services Managing Director of Wayra. The speakers discussed the role of the space sector in developing critical infrastructure, connectivity, and European technological sovereignty.
The meeting also included presentations from startups such as Whalebone, Quantum Bridge, Omniloy, telli, and Red Sift, showcasing solutions in cybersecurity, quantum-ready cryptography, and artificial intelligence applied to health and customer service.
Wayra, celebrating 15 years as Telefónica's open innovation platform, continues its investment activity and connection between startups and large corporations to facilitate the adoption of new technologies.
