EMT Madrid will allocate €34.3 million to purchase 65 electric buses in 2027. With this purchase, its zero-emission fleet would approach 600 vehicles.
The purchase of 65 electric buses for €34.3 million during 2027 is included in the budget project approved by the Board of Directors of EMT Madrid. According to ECOticias, with these units, the zero-emission fleet would approach 600 vehicles, nearly 30% of the total.
The project amounts to €937.86 million, a 4.4% increase from the previous year, and allocates €167.2 million for investments. The board approved it last Friday, chaired by the delegate for Urbanism, Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, as detailed by the company in a press release.
More than €93.3 million will be allocated to infrastructure, such as the electrification of operations centres, the installation of pantographs for bus recharging, and the adaptation of parking and mobility centres. For the new operations centre in La Elipa, €28.2 million is planned.
EMT will reserve €17.8 million for the final phase of the renovation of the Teleférico de Madrid, which will be completed in 2027. The accounts also foresee strengthening bus lines affected by major works, such as the undergrounding of the A-5 or the construction of the interchange at Conde de Casal.
In the European context, community regulations stipulate that 90% of new urban buses must be zero-emission by 2030, and 100% by 2035. These targets apply to new additions, not to the existing fleets already in operation.
