According to estenerife.com, the unemployment rate in Canary Islands stands at 10.92% in the third quarter of 2026, a level not seen since December 2007. These are the figures from the Active Population Survey (EPA) published this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The archipelago closes the July-September period with 1,073,600 employed, 38,100 more than in the previous quarter and 65,700 more than a year ago. This is the largest absolute increase in employment among all autonomous communities, with a quarterly growth of 3.67% and an annual growth of 6.52%.

The number of unemployed falls to 131,600 people, 4,200 fewer than in the previous quarter and 40,500 fewer in a year. The annual decrease of 23.55% is the largest in Spain in absolute figures, although in percentage terms it is behind Navarra (31.68%).

The active population rises by 33,800 people in the quarter (2.89%) and by 25,100 in the last year (2.13%). This moderate increase facilitates a more significant decrease in unemployment.

Despite the improvement, the Canary Islands remain among the five communities with the highest unemployment rates. They are surpassed by Andalusia (14.91%), Extremadura (13.01%), the Valencian Community (11.82%) and Castilla-La Mancha (11.36%). At the other end, Balearic Islands has the lowest rate (4.63%), followed by the Basque Country (7.7%).

In the whole of Spain, the unemployment rate stands at 10.18%, less than a point from that of the Canary Islands. The country adds 73,600 employed more in the quarter, reaching 22,852,600, while unemployment rises by 95,900 people, up to 2,591,200.
