The canning employers' association Anfaco-Cytma has sent 44 proposals to national parties to improve the competitiveness of the fishing industry and strengthen employment.
According to El Español, the National Association of Manufacturers of Canned and Processed Fish and Seafood Products (Anfaco-Cytma), based in Vigo, has submitted a document to national political parties containing 44 proposals to enhance the competitiveness of the Spanish fish and aquaculture product processing and marketing industry.
The organization wants these measures to be included in electoral programs and in the actions of the next Government, aiming to boost employment, investment, and European food autonomy.
Among their demands are a specific industrial policy for the sector, real reciprocity in international trade, a super-reduced VAT for all seafood products, and European funding for the entire value chain.
“We need political action towards the blue economy that considers the entire value chain”
This has been asserted by Roberto Alonso, Secretary General of Anfaco-Cytma, who reminds us that political decisions also affect processing, marketing, and the employment generated by the sector, not just fishing and aquaculture.
“Only from a global sea-industry perspective can we adopt the appropriate measures to strengthen competitiveness and European food autonomy”
