Matadepera is once again the Catalan municipality with the highest income for populations over 2,000, according to the INE. Its median income per consumption unit surpasses that of Sant Cugat del Vallès.

According to El Periódico, Matadepera (Vallès Occidental) has topped the ranking of household income in Catalonia for the tenth consecutive year. The National Institute of Statistics (INE) includes this in its Atlas of Household Income Distribution, with data from 2024, and only includes municipalities with more than 2,000 inhabitants.

The median income of the municipality reaches €37,450 per year per consumption unit. It is followed by Sant Cugat del Vallès, with €33,950. The Catalonia Statistics Institute (Idescat) provides a different measurement and ranked Alella in first place.

Since 2015, the first year of the historical series, Matadepera has held the top position. During this period, its median income has grown by 46%, compared to 34% for Catalonia, which stands at €22,050. In the last year, the increase was 5.9%, while in Catalonia it was 4.4%.

In the ranking of average net income per inhabitant, the INE places Matadepera in second place in Spain with €28,607, behind Pozuelo de Alarcón (€32,612) and ahead of Boadilla del Monte (€28,382). The agency highlights the stability of the podium:

«These three municipalities have already led this ranking in the previous three years».

Among the top fifteen, there are seven other municipalities in the province of Barcelona, such as Sant Just Desvern (€26,434) or Alella (€25,772). Overall, 44.1% of Catalan municipalities are among the 25% with the highest income in Spain. The average net income per person across the country rose by 6.1% in 2024, reaching €15,948.
