The Central European country offers vacancies in construction with salaries exceeding €5,000 gross per month for specialised profiles. SEPE channels the offers through EURES.
The public employment services of Austria, through the EURES network and SEPE, are channeling offers to fill positions in the construction sector that the local market cannot meet. According to que.es, salaries for specialised profiles exceed €5,000 gross per month, and no work visa is required as it is an EU country.
The construction sector accounts for the majority of the demand. The Austrian government has included bricklayers among the professions with a shortage of workers for 2026 in five federal states: Carinthia, Lower Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol, and Vorarlberg. The most sought-after positions are site managers, construction technicians, and foremen.
The salary tables of the construction agreement, effective from May 1, 2026, set a minimum of €17.03 gross per hour for an assistant, which amounts to €2,886.59 gross per month based on a reference of 169.5 hours. From there, salaries scale according to qualification: between €3,035 and €3,386 for workers with partial training, between €3,388.31 and €3,722.22 for qualified workers, and €3,825.62 monthly for a deputy foreman.
The highest figures are found in very specific specialties. Bricklayers specialising in chimneys have their own agreement that sets €28.45 per hour, about €4,822.28 gross per month. And a chimney foreman can earn €5,205.35 gross per month.
The difference between a decent salary and an excellent one in Austria lies not in the hours, but in the professional category listed in your contract.
The AMS, the Austrian public employment service, recorded 2,962 job advertisements for bricklayers during 2025. This figure reflects the difficulty companies face in finding qualified workers in the country. In addition to traditional demand, the energy transition is adding to the challenge: climate goals and the need to improve building efficiency are driving thermal rehabilitation and sustainable construction, making profiles such as insulation specialists strategic.
In addition to the base salary, there are allowances worth reviewing: daily allowances of €12.85, €20.70, or €34.20 for certain relocations, as well as accommodation compensation. Before signing, it is advisable to check the gross salary, professional category, applicable agreement, working hours, bonuses, and the cost of living in the destination area.
The vacancies can be consulted on the official EURES portal and in the specific section of the SEPE website for working in Austria. Knowing the German designation of the positions facilitates the search: Maurer is bricklayer and Bauarbeiter is construction worker. The cooperation between the employment services of Spain and Austria allows for video conference interviews, without the need to travel before having a firm offer.
There is no single deadline: offers are published continuously throughout 2026, so it is necessary to check the specific vacancy before applying. As Austria is an EU country, Spanish workers do not need a work visa, but they must meet the training or experience required by each offer.
