The leader of UGT Catalonia, Camil Ros, demands that the Government take responsibility for the general strike on November 11, focused on housing and purchasing power. He states that the strike is a labour issue.

According to the newspaper ARA, the leader of UGT Catalonia, Camil Ros, claims that the Government is mistaken if it does not feel addressed by the strike called for November 11. In an interview with this outlet, the union leader recalls that he has been at the helm of the Catalan federation for a decade.

The Spanish government is mistaken if it does not feel addressed by the strike

Ros argues that the strike is not aimed at a specific law that cuts labour rights, but against the entirety of the political majority. Its goal, he explains, is for the next Government to legislate with a focus on purchasing power and housing, the two issues he considers most important for citizens.

The union leader defends that the strike has a labour nature because wages, prices, housing, and pensions are linked to work. He recalls that, in his case, when he became independent in Girona at the age of 25, he earned 175,000 pesetas and paid 50,000 pesetas a month for a two-bedroom apartment.

Regarding the political context, Ros points out that the two housing decrees have failed in Congress and that Junts has decided to align with PP and Vox instead of supporting them. He adds that social dialogue is stalled and that employers are waiting to see the election results before negotiating.

If the mobilization is successful, Ros believes that the next Government, regardless of its political orientation, will have to take it into account. Concerning a potential victory for PP and Vox, he states that he will judge the governments by their policies and that if they fulfil what they announced regarding pensions, sick leave, or union rights, there will be mobilization.
