The Ibex 35 is nearing its historical highs and the number of stocks with short positions has decreased to 15. Solaria and Enagás continue to be the most pressured by short sellers.
The Ibex 35 closed the session on 5 August at 20,057 points, close to its historical highs, and this advance is slowing down investors betting on declines. According to Castellón Plaza, based on short position data from the CNMV, the number of index stocks with bearish bets has reduced to 15, down from around twenty four months ago.
The two most pressured companies remain Solaria and Enagás, with eight and seven short positions respectively. Solaria is the worst performer in the index this year, with a drop of 14.01%. Among its main short sellers are JP Morgan Asset Management (2.41%), AHL Partners (1.08%) and Marchant MC (1%).
In Enagás, the most significant short positions belong to Point 72 Europe (0.96%), Millennium International Management (0.77%) and ExodusPoint Capital Management (0.63%). The company has risen 40.61% in the stock market this year, according to the data collected in the original article, and its short sellers are betting against that trend.
Other stocks in the index have short positions above the 0.50% threshold, at which point regulations require market disclosure. These include Acciona, Cellnex Telecom, Colonial, Fluidra, Redeia and Sacyr, each with two positions, and Acerinox, Bankinter, Grifols, Indra, Puig Brands, Repsol and Rovi, each with one.
Conversely, around 20 companies in the index had no short positions equal to or above 0.50% yesterday. These include, among others, Banco Santander, BBVA, CaixaBank, Iberdrola, Inditex and Telefónica. Short position data is published in the public database of the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV).
