The Government of the Autonomous City of Melilla denounces that the central Government has not completed the establishment of the Chamber of Commerce, despite its approval in the Council of Ministers through Royal Decree.
According to Melilla Hoy, the Economy Minister of the Autonomous City of Melilla, Miguel Marín, has lamented that the city still lacks its own Chamber of Commerce. According to him, the Ministry of Economy and the Government Delegation in Melilla have stalled the establishment of this body, even though the Council of Ministers approved it on June 2 through a Royal Decree.
Marín believes that only the political will of the central Executive is lacking for its final approval. He recalls that the local Government has been working for over two years on the recovery of the Chamber, with the support of the city's business community and the Chamber of Spain.
“That political will has been absent from the very beginning.”
The minister also criticises the stance of the Government delegate, Sabrina Moh, who, according to him, suggested that business owners settle for a delegation in Ceuta. Marín rejects that option and asks the delegate for “a minimum of dignity” in the matter.
Marín states that he conveyed to the Minister of Economy, Carlos Cuerpo, that Melilla would not accept a mere delegation and that it meets all the requirements to establish the Chamber. He details that the commitment was formalised in writing twice, at the Ministry's request, and believes that “everything is in place.”
The minister hopes that the Royal Decree will be definitively approved if the national leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, reaches La Moncloa after the general elections on November 29. Until then, the Chamber of Commerce of Melilla has no date for its establishment.
