The Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz, celebrates the historic high of employment in Spain. Unemployment rises by 95,900 people in the third quarter, reaching 2,591,200.

The second deputy prime minister and Minister of Labour and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, has celebrated the record employment in Spain, with over 22.85 million people working. She made this statement in an assessment of the Active Population Survey (EPA) for the third quarter, as reported by pressdigital.es, and attributed the increase in unemployment to more people being active in the labour market.

According to the data that the minister has shared on Bluesky, employment has increased by 73,600 people compared to the previous quarter, reaching 22,852,600. The active population has grown by 169,500 people and has reached a historic high of 25,443,800.

The number of unemployed has risen by 95,900 people in the quarter, reaching 2,591,200, although it has decreased by 21,900 year-on-year. The unemployment rate stands at 10.18%.

In the last twelve months, employment has increased by 465,500 people. Díaz points out that one in four jobs created during this period are held by young people under 25 years old.

By type of contract, permanent employees have increased by 22,100 people in the quarter, surpassing 16.6 million. A total of 114,900 permanent positions and 68,000 temporary positions have been created. The rate of temporary employment in the private sector stands at 12.57%, more than twelve points below its level before the labour reform, and the number of women in employment exceeds 10.6 million, a historic high.

In assessing the data, the minister states:

“We demonstrate once again that our policies work, but also that we are not complacent”
