The rate of severe material and social deprivation in Spain rose from 3.5% to 8.1% between 2015 and 2025. The PP attributes the situation to the Government and inflation.

According to Hechos de Hoy, data from Funcas (Foundation of Savings Banks) places Spain in 10th position in the household poverty ranking, a drop of ten places. Furthermore, the country ranks fifth out of 27 in material and social deprivation within the European Union.

The rate of severe material and social deprivation has more than doubled in a decade: it rose from 3.5% in 2015 to 8.1% in 2025. The Deputy Secretary of Health and Social Policy of the Popular Party, Carmen Fúnez, used this data to criticise the Government of Pedro Sánchez, accusing it of impoverishing families through inflation and taxes.

Fúnez claims that the Executive has raised taxes more than 100 times and that food prices have increased by over 40%, while housing prices have risen by more than 70%. According to the Popular leader, wages are not growing at the same pace.

“We have an absolutely impoverished middle class”

The PP leader also places the child poverty rate above 30%. In light of this scenario, she proposes a government led by Feijóo that would lower taxes and support the self-employed, so that working allows people to escape poverty.
