The Interior Ministry of North Macedonia asserts that there is no record of Iva Mihaylova leaving the country, who was admitted to Pirogov hospital in Sofia on Friday. The Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office is considering assigning her police custody.

The Interior Ministry of North Macedonia has reported that no exit from the country is registered in the border control system under the name of Iva Mihaylova, according to information disseminated by the BTA agency based on an official response to the publication Fokus.

On the same morning, Mihaylova herself stated that she had arrived in Bulgaria and had crossed the border with her identity documents. The Bulgarian Interior Minister, Iván Demerdzhiev, confirmed her admission to Pirogov hospital in Sofia and announced that a check of the circumstances would be conducted and, if necessary, she would be assigned police custody.

Mihaylova, who holds Bulgarian and Macedonian citizenship, is being prosecuted in North Macedonia for a serious traffic accident that occurred on October 7, 2025 on the road between Kočani and Štip. One person died in the incident and several others were injured, including the accused herself. According to the prosecution, she was driving at excessive speed and entered the opposite lane.

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has stated that it was not informed in advance of the arrangements that led to Mihaylova's arrival in the country and did not participate in their organisation.

“I was not informed of her decision to return to Bulgaria, but it is justified given her medical condition, which is serious,” said Mihaylova's Macedonian lawyer, Naser Raufi, to BNR.

The case remains open in North Macedonia and the investigation into her entry into Bulgarian territory is now in the hands of the Sofia authorities.
