Santiago Abascal positions tax cuts and remigration as key issues for Vox. The party has 33 deputies in Congress, insufficient on their own to push these measures forward.

With 33 deputies, the VOX Parliamentary Group is the third force in the Congress of Deputies, and its leader, Santiago Abascal, has set tax cuts and remigration as the party's priorities. According to moncloa.com, the leader links the former to the pressure on workers, SMEs, and the self-employed.

Abascal argues that Spanish workers, SMEs, and the self-employed should no longer be harassed with what he considers abusive taxes and ideologically driven regulations. The party demands tax cuts in every budget negotiation as a prerequisite for any agreement.

On immigration, the programme is structured in three steps: repatriating those who are in Spain illegally, rejecting any regularisation, and deporting convicted individuals to serve their sentences in their country of origin. Remigration, a term Vox uses to refer to the departure of those residing in Spain without work and receiving social benefits, completes this approach.

Abascal estimates that five million people have entered Spain in five years, a figure that, according to him, affects security, healthcare, social services, education, and the housing market.

To implement these measures, the party would need a parliamentary majority that currently does not exist. Any change in immigration also requires reforming the Foreigners Act, the organic law that regulates the entry, stay, and expulsion of foreigners.

Abascal states that Vox aspires to the Presidency of the Government and not to the vice-presidency, and that the party is not wasting time on the distribution of portfolios with the PP of Alberto Núñez Feijóo. He also acknowledges the risk that an alternative to the Government of Pedro Sánchez may not materialise.

In Catalonia, the leader of Vox claims that Catalan identity is threatened by Islamism and mass immigration. He recalls an interview from 2003 in which he already pointed out this problem and proposes applying Article 155 of the Constitution against what he calls an “Islamic caliphate”.

Regarding the grandchildren's law, Abascal maintains that only 0.28% of those who obtained nationality and the vote had followed the procedure, in a case that the Supreme Court has stalled. The date for the next general elections has yet to be confirmed.
